What is Orthodontic care?

Pediatric Dentist in St. Louis, MO

As children grow, their teeth and jaws go through important stages of development. At Salthouse Smiles, we evaluate your child’s developing smile and address orthodontic concerns such as space maintenance, regaining lost space, and changes in tooth alignment.

Because every child’s dental development is different, our recommendations are based on their individual needs and stage of growth. Early evaluation helps us identify potential concerns, discuss appropriate treatment options, and determine whether additional orthodontic care may be beneficial.

How Early Orthodontic Care Supports Developing Smiles

Early orthodontic care focuses on monitoring how a child’s teeth and jaws develop and addressing certain concerns before they become more complicated. For example, a space maintainer may be recommended when a baby tooth is lost too early, helping preserve room for the permanent tooth to emerge.

Not every child needs early orthodontic treatment. Our team evaluates each child’s growth, tooth development, and overall dental health to determine whether monitoring, treatment, or a referral for specialized orthodontic care is appropriate. The goal is to support healthy development while avoiding unnecessary treatment.
